Dear Supporter,

Recent events have given a renewed impetus for residents in the Western Suburbs of Adelaide to campaign to save the Cheltenham Park Racecourse land as public open space.

The Cheltenham Park Residents Association (CPRA) has many supporters and friends, as shown by almost 800 supportive submissions to the Development Policy Advisory Committee during the public consultation held prior to the rezoning of this land.  We are asking for you to show your support again at this critical time in our campaign. Success in our current endeavours may depend in part on ‘people power’ and a show of solidarity.  Please complete your details on the enclosed letter and send it to the Premier, or send a letter/email in your own words to:

Hon Mike Rann MP GPO Box 2343 Adelaide SA 5001 or email: premier@dpc.sa.gov.au

We feel it’s important to let people know the fight to save Cheltenham is not over. CPRA has won the right to challenge the Ministerial rezoning in the Supreme Court. The case has been listed for trial, beginning on 15 June 2009 at 2.15pm.  Renowned water expert Colin Pitman (of Salisbury wetlands fame) has kindly agreed to give evidence in support of CPRA’s case.

As many of you know, this last great open space in the west is also a prime stormwater recycling site and has been identified by dedicated environmental groups as the key site for reducing the amount of polluting stormwater runoff into Gulf St Vincent, and mitigating the serious flood risk in the north-western suburbs.

This campaign has much wider implications for the future of our city and the right of communities everywhere to have a say in the future of their own suburbs and towns.

Please consider becoming a member of the Association. The annual membership fee is $10.00. If interested, fill out and return the slip below to PO Box 5154 Alberton SA 5014, or respond by email: twh79983@bigpond.net.au and           a membership application form will be sent to you.

Yours sincerely,
