The Big Water Debate
Thursday 11 February

Keynote address by ProfessorIan Lowe, President of the Australian Conservation Foundation"The truth and lies about water politics"

A sustainable Water Future without compromising the health of interdependent ecosystems is a critical issue for our state and our nation.

Water security is critical to business, agriculture and the quality of our lifestyle and our water future is of significant concern to the South Australian electorate - whether country, regional or city-based. It will be a major policy issue at the forthcoming State election.

Invitations have gone out to major and minor political parties to outline their policies in a debate format and an open question time will be provided afterwards.

Minister Weatherill has accepted the invitation to participate in The Big Water Debate and he will also be representing the Premier. He will be accompanied by Ms Robyn McLeod, Commissioner for Water Security.

About the Water Action Coalition:
WAC is a broadly based movement of community groups and environmental organisations seeking an informed and constructive debate on our water future. WAC seeks policies to secure a sustainable supply of water, without compromising the health of interdependent ecosystems, with the goal that these be implemented by the incoming SA Government and sustained by future governments for the benefit of all.

Our General and Exec Meetings

Our next Annual General Meeting will be on Wednesday 31st March 2010 at 7.30pm. Roll up ...Roll up ...Roll up!!!

The dates for the year are: 31st March (AGM!!), 26th May, 29th September & 24th Nov. - we have a recess over the Winter months.

Our Exec will be meeting on: 3rd March, 5th May, 14th July, 1st September and 3rd November.

Our General Meetings are held at the Henley Community Centre, 196 Military Rd, Henley Beach 5022.

We have lots of plans for 2010 - A Film night and Curry nights etc so stay in touch.

Water Action Embassy on the steps of Parliament House -

Your help is needed from Tuesdays to Fridays from 11am-1pm (see more through the link in the left handside column)

One of the primary objectives is to make the Politicians listen, to take notice and to take action.

You are encouraged to take part in the Embassy as we need people who are active in their community and believe that WATER is a key issue.You are encouraged to bring along your community Group Banner or Flag or make up a Placard of your own and join in the protest. Depending on numbers we are hoping to initiate some minor activities in strategic places in the City.

If you are available to help, please notify Diane Bell and Ruth Trigg who are responsible for organising the actions and roster for each day.

If you are able to spend some time at the Embassy your support will be greatly appreciated.
